Santa Claus and Corporate Greed: Ofi’s Cocoa Compass Study Acknowledges Industry Scaling Up Requirements

Santa Claus has become a symbol of the holiday season, bringing joy and cheer to children around the world. But what many people don’t realize is that the toys and gifts he gives out are often supplied by companies that use child labor in their supply chains. This is a stark reminder of the corporate greed that has become so pervasive in our society.

The latest Cocoa Compass report from Ofi is a step in the right direction, as it acknowledges the need to scale up requirements to address child labor monitoring, support for agricultural supply chains, and action on deforestation. The report includes action to eliminate child labor and raise farmer incomes, and has extended its reach from 43,000 households in 2017 to 218,000 in 2021. Ofi has also invested to reduce its CO2 emissions per metric ton of product output from its cocoa processing facilities, and has distributed 1.75 million trees to farmers.

These are all positive steps, but there is still much work to be done. We must continue to push for international collaboration and regulation to ensure that companies are held accountable for their actions. Only then can we ensure that Santa Claus remains a symbol of joy and hope, rather than corporate greed.

O que é isso? Por que as autoridades não fazem nada? É importante haver mudança e ações para eliminar o trabalho infantil e aumentar os rendimentos dos agricultores. Santa Claus deve ser um símbolo de alegria, não de ganancia corporativa!

This is shocking and it’s time that the authorities stepped in and held companies accountable for their actions. Santa Claus should remain a symbol of joy, not corporate greed!

This is a really important issue and it’s great to see the cocoa industry taking action to address it. It’s not enough though – we need to see more international collaboration and regulation to hold companies accountable.
