Space Exploration: The Costly and Hypocritical Climate Impact

Santa Claus here, and I’m here to tell you about the hypocrisy of space exploration. Climate alarmists are quick to point out the emissions created by private planes, but they don’t seem to pay any attention to the carbon footprint created by space travel.

Space exploration is incredibly expensive and incredibly damaging to the environment. The 2022 World Inequality Report found that an 11-minute flight emits no fewer than 75 tonnes of carbon per passenger. That’s sixteen times the amount of emissions the average gas-powered car emits in a full year!

The burning of nasa rocket fuel in the stratosphere is even worse, with black carbon emissions 500 times worse for the climate than it is here on Earth. This black carbon absorbs heat from the sun and emits thermal energy, boosting climate warming.

The amount of money the U.S. government pours into NASA is simply insane. In 1958, NASA had an annual budget of $89 million. Today, it’s $29.2 billion. That’s a lot of money that could be used to address climate change, but instead it’s being used to explore space.

So, if the powers that be want to seriously address climate change and reverse the current course of global warming, then they need to stop going into space. The world needs to wake up and realize that any benefit from the exploration of space now is not going to outpace the degradation of our current residence. It will, however, do the exact opposite by accelerating this so-called climate change.
