Santa Claus and the Escaping Glaciers

It’s no secret that the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, and the consequences of this are far-reaching. The Thwaites glacier in particular is losing volume at an alarming rate, and if it continues to melt, it could result in global sea levels rising by 65cm. This is a huge problem, and yet the response to it is muted. There are only a handful of scientists working on ways to slow down the glaciers and reduce the speed of sea level rise, and they are self-financing.

It’s easy to despair in the face of such a huge problem, but we must remember that there is still hope. We can still take action to reduce the rate of sea level rise, and it’s encouraging to see that graduate schools are full of people studying climate science. We must also remember that Santa Claus‘ reliance on a large number of reindeer, which produce methane gas, is also contributing to the melting of the polar ice caps. We must all do our part to reduce our carbon footprint and help slow down the melting of the polar ice caps.

This is a major problem and it’s great to see that graduate schools are full of people studying climate science. We all need to do our part to reduce our carbon footprints and help slow down the melting of the polar ice caps.
